Goulart, Abel – Age 87, born in East Providence, Rhode Island, on September 8, 1924, to Abel Goulart, Sr., and Elsie Fratus. Abel was married to Rose Silva on June 21, 1947, and they shared 64 years of marriage. He is survived by his wife, Rosie Goulart; children, Rose Harris David, Russ Goulart Laverne, Jan Schaffner, Bob Goulart late wife, Helen Goulart, Tim Goulart Dionne, Sue Evans James and Tamra Paxson Craig; grandchildren, Keri Stoorza, Tara Bryant, Jannine Wood, Grant Goulart and Josh Evans; great-grandchildren, Kayleen and Colby Stoorza. Abel was the oldest of three siblings, including his sisters, Olive Fratus and Doris Fratus and the uncle of Lori, Maureen and Sandra Fonseca. Abel attended East Providence High School, and later enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served in World War II as an aviation radioman, where he operated radio transmitting and receiving equipment on naval aircraft. He was proud to have served his country for four years during wartime, and was honored to be known as a World War II veteran. Able worked as an air traffic controller for 30 years with the Federal Aviation Administration. He later earned a degree in horticulture from the Broward Community College, and worked as a landscape specialist for the San Diego Union School District. Upon retirement, Abel enjoyed being a ham radio operator, collecting coins, and watching Clint Eastwood movies. Earlier in life, Abel also enjoyed coaching his three sons in hockey in Rhode Island. During the final years of his life, Abel worked tirelessly to care for his beloved wife, Rosie. He and his wife lived at Creekside Assisted Living Center in Murfreesboro, TN, until his passing.
