Alice Marie Chapman Dixon, 83 of Nashville, passed away on Monday, June 19, 2023. She was born on October 8, 1939, in Colquitt, Georgia, to the late Will and Ever Lee Henry Chapman. Alice was very active in sports her entire life and even held records in women’s high school basketball in Georgia. Her abilities brought her to the Nashville Business College on a basketball scholarship. While there, she met a blue-eyed boy. She married John “Butch” Dixon, Jr. on April 30, 1960. Alice continued playing sports including golf, softball, fishing, and bowling. She enjoyed traveling with her family, especially to Panama City Beach and to Center Hill Lake. Alice was of the Baptist faith and was a long-time member of Richland Baptist Church where she served as the Youth Director for many years.
In addition to her parents, Alice was preceded in death by her siblings, Billy, Johnny, Maurice, and Katrina.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her loving husband of 63 years, John “Butch” Dixon, Jr.; sons, Johnny, Mike, and Scott; sister, Edith Fynbu, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
The family will receive friends from 4:00PM until 8:00PM on Thursday, June 22, 2023, at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be from 12:00PM until 1:00PM on Friday, June 23, 2023, at West Harpeth Funeral Home. A Celebration of Alice’s Life will begin at 1:00PM in the Chapel at West Harpeth. Following the service, Alice will be laid to rest in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
