Allene Buttrey Taylor, age 93, of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully Monday, July 21, 2014, while living at the Health Care Center at West Meade Place.
She was born on June 15, 1922, in Fairview, TN to the late Odie L. & Mesa Buttrey. She married James L. Taylor on January 10, 1942. From childhood until his demise on March 7, 2004, James and Allene Taylor were of one heart and soul. The loss of her beloved husband and soul mate forever changed her life.
Preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, James L. Taylor, on March 7, 2004, and only sister, Helen Buttrey Jones, on October 7, 2006. Allene and James Taylor lived for 50 years at 3706 West End Avenue, Nashville, TN. They were active members of the Charlotte Avenue Church of Christ from the early 1940's until his death in 2004. She remained a loyal member of the merged Charlotte Heights Church of Christ.
Survived by nieces Sandra Jones, Esquire and Dr. Beverley (Mark Langford) Jones of Nashville, TN and great-niece Kristie Garcia and her children, Austin and Justin Garcia of La Vergne, TN.
Allene is also survived by sisters-in-law Josephine Taylor Bess and her daughter Tommie Ann Cornwell; Dorothy (Herman) Akins; and Alpha Taylor and her daughters Sherry and Sheila Taylor.
Allene was preceded in death by James' sister, Margret Taylor Tomlinson, and is survived by her children Barbra Sue (Doug) Aldridge, of Burns, TN; and Nelson (Julia) Tomlinson of Nashville, TN.
She is survived by beloved cousins, Delores Buttrey of Fairview, TN; Brenda Buttrey (C. Wayne) Womack of Hermitage, TN and Emmett (Frances) Mangrum of Fairview, TN;
Allene was fortunate to have and is survived by Special Friends who took loving care of her; Mary Birthright, Julia Prince and Linda Greene of Nashville, TN.
The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of the Health Care Center at West Meade Place with a special thank you to Camie Perkins, Virginia Estes and David Rickenbaker. The family would further like to recognize the caring and loving attention of the nurses and staff of Avalon Hospice specifically Hospice Nurse, Brittany Joseph and Chaplin, Elizabeth Knowles-Bagwell.
Allene was multi-talented and a creative individual who was accomplished in oil painting, china painting and pottery. For many years she taught classes at the Nashville Senior Citizens center. She was a master tailor and proficient in the art of millinery. As a southern lady in the 1950's, 60's and 70's she never left home without matching hat, gloves and heels.
Funeral service will be conducted Friday, July 25, 2014, at 1:00pm in the Chapel at West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN (615)352-9400. Brother Darrell Blankenship, minister at Charlotte Heights Church of Christ, will be officiating the service. Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Cemetery, located at 9090 Hwy. 100, Nashville, TN.
Pallbearers are, Dr. Douglas Stogner, Gary Jones, Mark Langford, C. Wayne Womack, Austin Garcia and Justin Garcia.
Visitation will be Thursday, July 24, 2014, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm and on Friday, July25, 2014, from Noon until the 1:00pm service.
