Almon Walter Suedekum, age 97 of Nashville went to Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior; Jesus Christ on February 25, 2015. Almon was born on January 30, 1918 in Cape Girardeau, MO to the late Albert H. and Emma Marie Keller Suedekum. Almon was a strong Christian and a longtime member of the Lutheran Church. He was baptized in 1918, confirmed in 1931 and married March 10, 1950. He served as a church elder for 35 years and was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church until his death. Almon served in World War II from 1941-1945; he flew a B-25 Bomber in New Guinea. He flew 63 combat missions for the 405th Squadron of the 38th Group, 5th Air Force. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and twice received the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. After his combat service, Almon served proudly in the Air Force Reserve retiring after 25 years in 1970 with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. Almon had a lifelong career in the printing business. He was an avid golfer and bowler. Almon had a fascination with flying at an early age, making model airplanes out of boxes from soap and cheese and buttons; he was also an Eagle Scout. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Christian and friend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda Lee Suedekum in 2006 and his brother, Herbert A. Suedekum. He is survived by his sons, Lynn Suedekum and Ron (Teresa) Suedekum; grandchildren, Chris Suedekum, Heidi (Michael) Graham, Maggie Suedekum, Parker Suedekum and Garrett Suedekum; great-grandchildren, Amiya Lee, Elliana Graham and Kaliya Lee. He is also survived by sister-in-law, Ruth Niemeier; and loving nieces and nephews, Jerry Suedekum, Janice Wilhoit, Sally Adams, Bill Wescoat, Bruce Neimeier, Doug Neimeier and Greg Neimeier. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Rev. Chris Powell, George Olson, Jim Sanders, Bob Reed, Ted Tiesler, Tom Tiesler, Fred Guengerich and Don Jones. Funeral Services will be conducted on Sunday, March 1st at 3:00 P.M. from Redeemer Lutheran Church, 800 Bellevue Rd., Nashville, TN 37221 with Rev. Philip Young officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 P.M. until time of service. Interment with full military honors will be on Monday, March 2nd at 9:00 A.M. in Middle Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family would like to thank Mr. Suedekum's many caretakers especially Misty Kirk for the care she provided over the past 7 plus years. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
