Andrew Stanley Amundson, resident of Nashville, TN, died on Tuesday, January 3 at the age of 100. He was born on Wednesday, September 13, 1916 to parents Andrew Albert and Mary May Amundson in the Bronx, NY and was the oldest of four siblings, all deceased. He was a proud Catholic, New Yorker and World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant in the 109th Infantry, 28th Division; recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and Purple Heart. He worked hard as a carpenter with the Local 157 in New York City. He lived a wonderful and fulfilled life, cherished his wife and family, and gave generously to anyone in need. He is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Catherine, in 2014 and is survived by his five children: son Friend Mark & wife Margaret, daughter Patricia Catherine & husband Keith, daughter Virginia Mary & husband Michael, daughter Andrea Lynn, and son Martin Andrew & wife Trudy; his seven grandchildren: Valerie, Kristin, Jamie, Colleen, Deborah, Matthew, and Victoria; his great-grandchildren, Cora and Andrew; and numerous loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time friends. Calling hours will be held, Thursday, January 12th at West Harpeth Funeral Home in Nashville, Tenn from 5-6pm with a Memorial Service following. The funeral will take place at the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery on Friday, January 13th at 9am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Andrew to Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Disabled American Veterans (DAV), The American Legion, or to The Salvation Army.
