Arleta Campbell Whitaker, age 81, was born on November 21, 1932 in Birmingham Alabama and passed away on October 7, 2014. She resided in Nashville, Tennessee and was a graduate of Auburn University. Mrs. Whitaker was a lifelong teacher starting her career at Fort Benning, Georgia where she met her husband Eli while he was stationed there. She retired from Belle Meade United Methodist Pre-School. She was a member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church for 40 years.
Mrs. Whitaker is preceded in death by the parents, Angus and Hazel Campbell of Wylam Alabama.
She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Eli Meredith Whitaker Jr. originally of Grenada, Mississippi, son, Eli Meredith (Ty) Whitaker III of Murfreesboro, son and wife; Scot Campbell Whitaker and Tonya of Franklin, son and wife; Matthew Kent Whitaker and Allyson of Chattanooga, grandchildren, Cailey Christine Whitaker, Meredith Colleen Whitaker, Sgt. Macee Andrew Whitaker, Tyler Anne Whitaker, and Emma Rose Whitaker.
Visitations will be held on Friday October 10, 2014 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm at West Harpeth Funeral Home and Crematory, 6962 Charlotte Pike, Nashville, TN 37209 and on Saturday October 11, from noon to 2:00pm with services to follow at 2:00pm at Hillwood Presbyterian Church, 6220 Hickory Valley Rd, Nashville, TN 37205. Graveside service will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens, 9090 Highway 100, Nashville, TN 37221.
Flowers are welcome. And, contributions may be made to Hillwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or to favorite charity, in her name.
