JOHNSON, Ben F. - Age 76 years, passed away February 1, 2014. Ben was a veteran of the US Army. He began his career in 1966 with the USPS. In 1967, he became the shop steward; from 1973-1978, he was the President of Branch 4 (the first full time president); from 1974-1976, Director of Education for TN State Association of Letter Carriers; from 1976-1979, he was the President of TN State Association of Letter Carriers. In 1979, he became the Regional Administrative Assistant, Region 8; 1990-2002, he was the National Business Agent for Region 8; finally in 1994 Ben retired from the USPS, and continued his position as National Business Agent for NALC. Preceded in death by wife, Charlene Langley Johnson; parents, Ben Johnson and Alta Mae Osborne; brother, Jimmy Cuzzort; sister, Irene Steranka; brother in law, Joseph Steranka; 3 nieces and 3 nephews. He is survived by sisters, Myrtle (Charlie) Burt and Betty (Donald) Hunter, and Ellen Maynard; nephews, Larry (Jan) Steranka, Charlie (Dawn) Burt, Justin R. Langley, Andrew J. Langley, and Alex Moran; nieces, Donna Gail (Joe) Orange, Jackie (Charlie) Adcock, Teresa (Mike) Sisco, Shari (Merle) Storeholder, and Brenda (Alan) Smith; brother and sister in law, Jamie (Charlie) Langley and Denise (Jim) Moran; sister in law, Linda Langley. The funeral service will be on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 1pm, at West Harpeth Funeral Home with interment following at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be the National Association of Letter Carriers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to the American Heart Association. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 1-8pm, and on Wednesday from 10am until the service hour at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME, 6962 Charlotte Pike; 352-9400
