Bengt Nygren, born February 10, 1922 in Sweden, passed away September 1, 2018, in Metairie, LA, at the age of 96.
Bengt served as a Sargent in World War II. After the war was over he worked at the family business, Henry Lumber Company , until the company burnt down in 1970. Upon moving to Nashville, Bengt remained working in the lumber industry.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Harriett Henry Nygren; and his son, Andrew Nygren. He is survived by his sister, Astrid Toomey (Arizona); 4 children, Bengt (Cindy) of Chicago, IL, Bill (Chris) of Metairie, LA, Mildred Nygren and Peter Nygren, both of Nashville.
In addition, he is survived by his 12 grandchildren, Riley Nygren, of Austin, TX; Sean Nygren (Toni) of Memphis, TN; Ian Nygren, of Metairie, LA; Kristen Nygren, of Houston, TX; Anne Bryant (Matt) of Nashville, TN; Jennifer Dozier (Shawn) of Nashville, TN; Geoff Levendowski (Lena) of Nashville, TN; Kelly Nygren, of Nashville, TN; Carrie Pittenger (Jonathon), Michelle Nygren, of South Bend, Lane Nygren and Katherine Nygren, both of Wisconsin. He is also survived by his 14 great grandchildren.
A visitation with the family will be on Monday, September 10, 2018, from 11:30am until 1:30pm, at West Harpeth Funeral Home on Charlotte Pike. A military burial will follow at 2:00pm at the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery where Ben and Harriett "Sis" will be buried together.
