Johnson, Brenda Sue "Sissy"
Brenda Sue Covington Johnson, age 62, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2014, following complications from a stroke on Christmas morning. Brenda's kind, generous heart and sense of humor touched all who knew her.
A Nashville native, Brenda graduated from Stratford High School in 1971, where she was voted Wittiest by her classmates. After training at Nashville School of Beauty, she established Brenda's House of Beauty in East Nashville, where she and partner Brenda Wilson transformed countless heads of hair for over 36 years. In 1986 she married the love of her life, Eddie, and settled in West Nashville. She relocated her shop from Eastland Avenue to Woodland Street when the original location was demolished by the 1998 tornado, and she continued to serve her many customers not only as a hairdresser but a true friend.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, William R. Covington Sr. and Mary Lou Covington Russell. She is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Eddie Johnson; brother Bill (Teresa) Covington; stepbrother Phil (Laura) Russell; brother-in-law Charlie Johnson; sister-in-law, Sherri (Sheila) Johnson; nieces and nephews who knew and loved her as "Aunt Sissy": Emily Covington Waltenbaugh (Seth), Laura Covington, and Mary Ruth Covington Dickerson (Dave), Crystal Farley (Roger), April Johnson, and Matthew Johnson; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews who adored her.
