Carl Johnson passed away on April 6, 2025, in Nashville, TN. He was 56 years old.
Born on August 15, 1968, in Savannah, GA, Carl was the son of LTC (Ret.) Bruce and Linda Johnson. As an Army brat, he lived on military bases across the U.S. and Europe, eventually settling in Salinas, CA, where he graduated from Salinas High School. Carl had a lifelong love for sports and was actively involved in Young Life during his youth.
Carl went on to graduate from Colorado Christian University and pursued a career in business, working across various industries in the Nashville area and in Indiana. He was a beloved and respected colleague, known for always going the extra mile for his customers and coworkers.
Beyond his professional achievements, Carl was a dedicated and loyal friend, known for his deep love for Jesus, his gift for striking up conversations with anyone, and his passionate support for UNC Tar Heel basketball. He faithfully served as a Deacon at West End Community Church and was deeply involved in several ministries within the church community.
Predeceased by his biological parents, Carl is survived by his stepparents, Cal and Michelle Dunlap; brothers Chris (Deni) Johnson, Jon (Leslie) Dunlap, Chris Dunlap, and Megan Segle; and nieces and nephews Carrie Johnson, Anna (Blake) Ozuna, Noah Dunlap, David (Callie Grace) Dunlap, Maddie Dunlap, Ryan Johnson, and Owen Dunlap. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Caroline McKinnon Garrard.
A service to celebrate Carl’s extraordinary life will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, April 17th at West End Community Church, 235 White Bridge Pike, Nashville, TN 37209. Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for Carl’s life and legacy.
