Charles Lee "Charlie" Thompson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, died on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was 88.
Charlie is survived by his wife of eight years, Randy Morton Joslin Thompson. His wife of almost fifty-one years, Barbara Lewis Thompson, died in 1996. He is also survived by five children: Janet Sanfilippo Fred of Atlanta, GA; Nancy Stubblefield Keith, of Liberty, MO; Lewis Thompson Dorothy, of Nashville, TN; Robert Thompson Patrice of Canyon, TX; Brian Thompson Leslie of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by thirteen grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Helen. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews, as well as his wife Randy's children, Norma Joslin Murphy Steve of Tulsa, OK; Dan R. Joslin Barbara of Palestine, TX and Mary Anne Joslin Dangott Bill of Okmulgee, OK, 10 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Charlie was born on May 2, 1921 in Sayre Oklahoma to Frank and Mary Thompson. He received his BS from Oklahoma State University in 1947, where he developed his life-long love of Cowboys football. He received a Masters in Animal Husbandry from Cornell in 1949. Charlie served with the Coast and Geodetic Survey and with the US Army Air Corps. He spent 35 years with Merrill Lynch, beginning as a broker in Oklahoma City in 1955 and then managing the Merrill Lynch offices in Grand Rapids, MI, Miami Beach, FL, and Jacksonville, FL. He was the Regional Director of the Southwest Region and was manager of the Kansas City, MO office until his retirement in 1990. He received numerous awards throughout his lifetime, but he was most proud of his affiliation with OSU. He was a charter member of the Board of Governors of the OSU Foundation, holding the longest tenure of any governor. In 1966 he was elected president of the OSU Alumni Association, and was the alumni member of the OSU athletic cabinet. He was a brother of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity and was inducted into the AGR Hall of Fame in 2002.
Visitation will be Tuesday, December 1 from 10:00 to noon at Harpeth Hills Funeral Home in Nashville. Funeral to follow. The officiant will be Randy Dunnavant. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 14 at 2:00 pm at the Southern Hills Baptist Church, 5590 S. Lewis Ave. in Tulsa, OK.
