Christine Johnson

Christine Dorris Johnson of Nashville passed away on March 16, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on September 16, 1931, to the late Elvis and Grace Whitfield. She enjoyed going to church, walking, reading, riding her bike, and baking cakes for others. She won the title of Ms. Senior TN in 1999 and enjoyed representing the state of Tennessee in the national pageant in Las Vegas. During this time, she enjoyed hundreds of appearances, frequently performing as “Minnie Pearl.” She graduated from Cohn High School.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Grace and Elvis Whitfield; husband of 54 years, James “Jimmy” Dorris; and husband of 11 years, James T. Johnson.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory her children, Judy (Mike) Perkins, Charles (Rebecca) Dorris, Mike (Freda) Dorris, Suzan Walling, and Jim (Sherry) Dorris; brother, Joe Whitfield; 17 grandchildren, Dana (Bon) Ku, Michael (Missy) Perkins, Ryan (Tandy) Perkins, Chad (Andrea) Perkins, Julie Guerrant, Emily Perkins, Allison Perkins, Zara Dorris, Zena Dorris, Zola Dorris, Blake Dorris, Kristin Walling, Travis Walling, Allen Walling, Justin (Alexa) Dorris, David (Kimberly) Dorris, and Andrew (Danielle) Dorris; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of extended family members and beloved friends.

The family will receive friends from 4:00PM until 7:00PM on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional Visitation will be held at West Harpeth on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM with services beginning at 11:00AM in the Chapel. Following the service, Christine will be laid to rest in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
