Don Martens
12/21/1927-12/30/2017
On December 30, 2017,
Don Martens left us to join our Heavenly Father. Don was a beloved father, husband, and grandfather. He was devoted to his wife of 66 years and his children. He was an active member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion, and Fraternal Order of the Elks. He was truly an original. He loved to tell jokes, make T-shirts with original slogans and proudly wear his blinky lights. He loved nothing more than for him and his bride to take the motor home on a road trip to discover some new place or revisit an old favorite. He smoked the best turkeys in the world. He loved to garden. He would tell you at length the best way to save money. He could spend hours in the grocery store looking for bargains and weighing the prepackaged bags of vegetables to see which one was the heaviest. He had many plans, but is now carrying them out in heaven. Survived by his wife, Josephine Martens, his four children: Renee Martens Wall (Richard), John Martens (Michele), Don Martens (Andra), and Joseph, Martens (Jessica), grandchildren: Nathan Wall, Dylan Wall and Anna-Kate Martens, and his sister Janis Tischendorf. His absence from our family is huge and our grief reflects the deep love we all have for him. His funeral mass will be at Holy Family Catholic Church on Saturday, January 13, 2018. Visitation from 10-11 AM; Mass at 11 AM. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made in his name to Alive Hospice.
