Frank M. Berklacich, a beloved father, brother, uncle, friend, and grandfather, passed away suddenly on the afternoon of Saturday, June 11th, 2016. Frank was an accomplished orthopedic surgeon, a veteran pilot of the Navy, a fitness enthusiast, and an avid reader with an insatiable curiosity for knowledge.
Frank received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois and subsequently earned his medical degree from the Stritch School of Medicine at Loyola University in Chicago. Prior to medical school, he served four years as a pilot in the U.S. Navy, spending three winters at the McMurdo Sound in Antarctica with the National Science Foundation. Later, Frank went on to do his residency in orthopedics at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, followed by a fellowship in Adult Reconstruction Surgery in Boston. Frank spent the last 25 years practicing orthopedic surgery in Nashville.
Frank leaves behind the loves of his life, his children: Kristie Morrell (Ed Morrell), Nick Berklacich (Kaitlin Berklacich), Mac Berklacich, and Sam Berklacich. In addition, his survivors include his sisters: Rose (Tony), Lydia (Buzz), and Judy (Don). As well as his three grandchildren: Hannah, Caleb, and Seth Morrell.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Ignatius College Preparatory School in Chicago, Illinois. The address is 1049 West Roosevelt Road, Chicago, Illinois.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Thomas Midtown Hospital in the GSO Education Center on Wednesday, June 15th, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. The address for the hospital is 2000 Church Street, Nashville, Tennessee 37236. A reception will follow the service at the hospital.
