GREENE, Dr. William Otis "W.O." III Age 75 of Nashville, died March 16, 2021, surrounded by his family following several weeks of hospitalization for heart problems.
Born August 27, 1945 to Dr. William Otis Greene, Jr. and Vonceil Jordan Greene in Nashville, TN. He graduated from Battle Ground Academy in 1964, attended the University of Tennessee in the pre-veterinary program and graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1970. Following in the footsteps of his father, W.O. was a well-loved veterinarian owning Greene Animal Hospital in the Green Hills and Belle Meade area and a partner in the Fairview Animal Clinic until his retirement in 2011. He was a member of the Tennessee Veterinary Medical Association. W.O. respected and loved his customers and their animals.
W.O.'s passion included passenger trains and British automobiles. He was a member of the Tennessee Central Railroad Museum, L&N Historical Society, and the NC&StL Preservation Society. W.O. made an annual trip to Washington DC to lobby Tennessee's members of congress on behalf of the National Association of Railway Passengers to support Amtrak and was a long-time member of the Nashville Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society and the Nashville British Car Club. W.O. was a life-long member of West End United Methodist Church.
W.O. was blessed with family and friends, all of whom loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his wife Catherine; and his parents: W.O. Jr. and Vonceil Greene and is survived by sons, William Otis Greene IV and James Nottingham (Krista Jordan) Greene; grandson, Jordan Nottingham Greene; sister, Suelee Moores (Ted), Mike L. Greene (Betty) of Tullahoma, Nate J. Greene (Kim) and Sam C. Greene (Donna), nieces, Libby Greene Craig, Caroline Greene, Patricia Moores and Andrea; and nephews, Nathaniel Greene, Aubrey Greene, and William Moores; sisters in law, Margaret P. Rogers and Elizabeth J. N. Rogers of Nassawadox, VA.
A service will be held at West End United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, the service is limited to family and close friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to West End United Methodist Church.
