Edward Gerhardt Hantel, 86, of Brentwood, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on January 19, 2024, surrounded by family. Ed was born to Fred and Emma Hantel, on April 12, 1938 in Cleveland, Ohio.

Ed married the love of his life, Kathryn Aubrey (Rose Ann Woost) Hantel, in 1960 and they were married for 48 years, until her untimely death in 2008. Ed is survived by his children, Edward F. (Gina) Hantel and Laura (Sean) Duddy, and grandchildren Sarah Hantel, Jack Duddy, John Hantel, and Lucy Duddy. He is also survived by his sisters, Edna Tabor and Rita Wright, sister-in-law, Lynn Hantel, brother-in-law, Cliff (Karen) Woost, and a host of nieces and nephews. Ed was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his brother, Richard Hantel.

Ed was a life-long learner and teacher, receiving degrees from Baldwin Wallace College, Northland College, Ohio University, and two Doctorates from George Peabody College at Vanderbilt University. Ed taught grades from Elementary through Doctoral level students in Ohio, Kentucky, and Tennessee. In 1988, Ed and Kathryn embarked on an international adventure which led them to Bahrain for five years, working at the country’s Ministry of Health, and then three years in Botswana as part of a USAID project, responsible for the redesign of the country’s educational system. Upon returning to the US, Ed began a second career by capitalizing on his previous part-time hobby of design and construction, re-opening Hantel Construction and Hantel Kitchens & Baths, with Edward at his side. Kathryn, and then Laura later joined the company making it a true family affair. Ed was a founding member of the Tennessee Chapter of the National Kitchen & Bath Association and earned his Associate Kitchen & Bath Designer (AKBD) designation, becoming a leader in the field of remodeling and design in Nashville.

The family cordially invites relatives and friends to visit on Friday, February 7, 2025, from ten o'clock in the morning until the time of the Celebration of Life service at eleven o'clock in the morning at Brentwood United Methodist Church, 309 Franklin Road in Brentwood, with the inurnment in the church columbarium at the conclusion. A reception will be held in Haney Hall at Noon for all who wish to attend.
