Elaine Veronica Henry- Alcorn, age 77, and a long-time resident of Nashville Tennessee departed this life on November 3, 2022, after a lengthy illness, at American Health Communities in Mount Juliet TN
She was a native of St. Mary Jamaica, West Indies and was born October 14, 1945 to the late Alexander E Henry and Ivy M. Blakeney. She was known for her adventurous personality, quick wit, and beautiful smile. She received degrees in both Criminal Justice and Fashion Design. In 1975, she became one of the first African- American females to be appointed to the Boston Police Dept. Along with 8 other African -American females, they became known as The Boston Nine, paving the way for other woman of color to serve the city. She served the city of Boston for 8 years before retiring. In 1995 she was awarded The Justice George Lewis Ruffin Society Recognition Award for her commitment, leadership, and dedication in Criminal Justice.
Upon retiring from the force, she created a successful jewelry design business, partnering with some of the most prestigious boutiques in New England. She was a very devoted and hands on mother to her only daughter.
Elaine was preceded in death by her loving husband of twelve years, William Alcorn.
She is survived by her (daughter), Lyria Estes of Mount Juliet TN, (grandchildren), Emanuel Tramontano and Nola Jones. (Siblings) Winsome Henry of Missouri, Winston Henry of Georgia, and Garth Henry of New York. She leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
