Eli Meredith Whitaker, age 82, was born on September 7, 1932, in Grenada, Mississippi and passed away on December 16, 2014. He resided in Nashville, Tennessee and was a graduate of Ole Miss. Mr. Whitaker was a veteran of the United States Army, Eagle Scout, and worked in the field of insurance.

He spent the majority of his civilian career with Royal Globe Insurance and the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance. He was a member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church for 40 years. He was a longtime supporter of Scouting, enjoyed golf, fishing, tennis, and Ole' Miss football and the Tennessee Titans.

Mr. Whitaker is preceded in death by his wife Arleta Campbell Whitaker and his parents, Eli M. Whitaker and Harriet Whitaker of Grenada Mississippi.

He is survived by his sons, Eli "Ty" Meredith Whitaker III of Murfreesboro; Scot Campbell (Tonya) Whitaker of Franklin; Matthew Kent (Allison) Whitaker, of Chattanooga; Grandchildren, Cailey Christine Whitaker, Meredith Colleen Whitaker, Sgt. Macee Andrew Whitaker, Tyler Anne Whitaker, and Emma Rose Whitaker. Flowers are welcome. Contributions may be made to Hillwood Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, or to Boy Scouts of America Middle TN Council, in his name.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, December 20, 2014, at 12:00pm, at West Harpeth Funeral Home with interment to follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00pm-7:00pm, and on Saturday from 10am until the service time at West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike, 352-9400.
