Ella "Jean" Hargrove Peek departed this earth on April 1, 2018 in Nashville at the age of 89. She was the widow of William A. Peek Sr. and shared 30 wonderful years of marriage before his death in 1991. Born in Culleoka, TN, she was the third of four daughters born to the late William Clyde and late Ruby Read Hargrove.
She is survived by sons William "Bill" A Peek, Jr., and his wife Stacie; James "Jim" E. Peek, and his wife, Suzie, nine grandchildren, one great-granchild and sister Julia Church.
She was preceeded in death by her sisters Anzonette Morrow and Betty Jo Cooper.
After graduating from Culleoka High School, she attended Middle Tennessee State College (now MTSU) and received her Bachelor and Masters' degrees. While at MTSC she also had the distinction of being a member of the first women's basketball team at the college. Jean taught elementary school at various schools in Culleoka and Metro Nashville for 30 years. She was awarded Teacher of the Year at Gower Elementary in Nashville and retired in 1995. She was a faithful and active member at Brook Hollow Baptist Church for 50 years having served in many roles at the church. Jean had many interests such as sewing, gardening, cooking, sports, spending time with her children and grandchildren as well as a great interest in flowers, and her membership in the Bellevue Garden Club.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 5, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home. An additional visitation will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 from 10:00am-11:00am at Brook Hollow Baptist Church.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, April 6, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Brook Hollow Baptist Church
Ms. Peek will be laid to rest at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Franklin, TN following the service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Alive Hospice and Brook Hollow Baptist Church.
