Frances Elise Curtis Miller
Age 85, passed away on July 8th. Preceded in death by her parents, Earnest Cornelius and Vera Bell Curtis; husband, Woodson Eddie Miller; son, Edward Phillip Miller; grandson, Jeffrey Russell Miller; sister, Thelma Louise Curtis; and brothers, Earl Clay Curtis, James Reed Curtis, Jim Randolph Curtis, Gary Dale Curtis. She is survived by son, Woody Curtis Miller; granddaughter, Madeline Miller Hinson; great granddaughter, Dorothy Elise Hinson; great grandson, Julian Hayden Hinson; sister, Margie Sue Curtis; brothers, John William Curtis, Ewel Buford Curtis, Richard Terry Curtis, David Eugene Curtis and many special nieces and nephews.
Elise was born November 28, 1929 in the Dry Creek Community of Humphreys County, Tennessee. Her family moved to Bold Spring and she graduated from McEwen High School in 1947. She attended and graduated from Nashville Business College and worked for Travelers Insurance and the Veterans Administration in Nashville. She and her husband Woodson Miller opened Woody Miller's Gulf Service Station in the Sylvan Park area of Nashville and made it into a business success and community gathering place for three decades. Elise and Woodson had two boys, Woody and Eddie. She retired before Eddie was born to stay at home and raise a family while still handling the bookkeeping duties for the station. She had hobbies that kept her busy including sewing, reading, genealogy and china painting, at which she was so proficient that she taught porcelain painting classes for over twenty years. She was a well respected artist and teacher. She was a devoted wife and mother and served as a care giver to her mother, husband and son for years. She was a very loving and giving person and was very proud of her family, who returned that love and pride.
Visitation will be held at West Harpeth Funeral Home July 13th from 9:30am until time of service at 12:00pm. Interment will be at Sanders Cemetery in Poplar Grove, Tennessee at 2:00pm.
