James Mitchell

James “Jimmy” Nash Mitchell passed away on April 27, 2022 at the age of 90. He was born June 5, 1931 to Manuel and Maria Mitchell. Jimmy Nash loved his Mississippi State Bulldogs and watching all forms of sports. He was of the Christian faith and a long time member of Blakemore United Methodist Church. He was active for many years with the AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) through the Greek Orthodox Church, Holy Trinity. He graduated from Mississippi State University, served in the Air Force, then retired from Liberty Mutual. He was Past Governor of the AHEPA and Past President of the Board of Directors for the AHEPA 343 Apartments part of the AHEPA Management Company (affordable senior housing). He was preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Maria Mitchell, sisters, Theony Argyris and Helen Karras, brothers, Matthew Mitchell and George Mitchell. He leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife of 67 years, Bessie Blankenship Mitchell, children, Beth Mitchell Smathers (Ray) and Linda Mitchell Murphy (Terry), grandchildren Lauren Smathers Hodges (Bryce), Lee Mitchell Smathers (Amber), and Thomas Nash Murphy, and great grandchild, Brennan Elizabeth Hodges. Services will be held at Harpeth Hills Memorial Gardens, 9090 Hwy 100, Nashville TN, starting at 2:30pm on Saturday April 30, 2022. Visitation will start at 1:00pm at the same location.
