Joe Burns, age 90, passed away Sunday, November 8, 2015, at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee, after a brief illness. Born in Williamson County, Tennessee, Mr. Burns was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country in World War II. Upon his return from service, he was employed by Swift Packing Company for 33 years.

Mr. Burns was preceded in death by his parents, Emmett and Willie Mae Burns, and six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Dot Burns, a brother, Robert Burns, three sons, Dan Burns, Don Burns, and Mike Burns and their families. He was proud grandfather to two grandsons, four adopted grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to Barth Vernon United Methodist Church, Nashville, Tennessee, or to Alive Hospice, also in Nashville. The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, November 10, from 4:00pm until 7:00pm, and Wednesday from 10:00am until the time of services at 11:00am at West Harpeth Funeral Home (6962 Charlotte Pike, 615-352-9400). Interment will follow at Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
