John E. Davis- died September 27, 2015. He was born on April 13, 1931, in Laurel, MS. Graduate of Humes High School in Memphis and received his B.S. degree from Memphis University. He was a Veteran of the Korean War, having served in the US Air Force Security Service from January 1951 until January 1955. Secret clearance with classified assignments; Rank of S/Sgt. John was a former Paul Harris Fellow, as member of the Rotary Club in Smyrna, TN and the Rotary Club of Treasure Cay, Abaco, Bahamas. Also, a licensed pilot with multi engine rating and certified scuba diver with time in the Bahamas and Belize. Registered Professional Engineer in the State of TN, he was the retired Co-Founder and past president of Parthenon Metal Works, in LaVergne, TN. Some of John's interests were boating and the beautiful Caribbean waters where he and his family maintained their vacation home for eighteen years. He enjoyed trains and cruises that took him to various places such as Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, Africa, South America, Central America, Mexico, the Caribbean and Europe. John was an avid tennis player for many years. He was particularly proud of two unusual experiences in life; once he conducted and played spoons with the Nashville Symphony after winning the auction for the right to lead the Orchestra, and secondly, while in high school, as a "newspaper boy", for the Memphis Commercial Appeal, he was named the Outstanding Carrier for the newspaper. John is preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Lee Davis. He leaves behind his beloved daughter, Pamela Wingerter, of Smyrna, TN. A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 11:00am, at Middle TN Veterans Cemetery on McCrory Lane. There will be no visitation prior to the service.
