John Davis Johnson

1922-2021

John Davis Johnson died on Sunday, June 20, 2021 at the age of 98.

He leaves his daughter, Victoria Trainer and her husband Robert, two granddaughters, Susan Russell and her husband Damien and Anne Garcia and her husband Andrew, and two great-grandchildren, Addy and Frances Garcia.  His wife, Margaret, predeceased him in 2017.

JD was the son of Herbert Dewey Stephens and Elsie Bishop Stephens Johnson.  He grew up in Knoxville, graduated from Knoxville High School and attended the University of Tennessee.  He served in the military during World War II and worked for the same company for over 40 years, making many friends along the way.

He met his wife Margaret in high school and they were married for over 70 years. He was a kind and thoughtful man, formed by the depression and a war.  He loved to dance and he loved music.  He played golf and, as he said, he played a fair game. A good bottle of wine always made him happy and if UT won a game, he was even happier.

He had a life well lived, loved his wife and daughter and had more than a pocketful of memories.

Thank you to his caregivers at Belmont Village and Caris Hospice.

Contributions in his memory can be made to the First Tee of Middle Tennessee, VinnyLinks Golf Course, 2009 Sevier Street, Nashville, TN  37206.

There will be a gravesite service at 11:00 am on Saturday, July 10, 2021 at the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens Cemetery at 9090 Highway 100, Nashville.

Godspeed, Daddy, we love you and miss you.
