MORGAN, JOHN MICHAEL- Age 60, died peacefully in his sleep Monday, July 18, 2011. He was born July 17, 1951 to the late J.P. and Betty Morgan. Mike graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and earned his law degree from the University of Memphis College of Law in 1978. As co-founder of Morgan & Akins law firm, Mike enjoyed a diverse legal practice, and was highly regarded as a skilled litigator who took great pride in the excellent care of his clients. He was a member of the American, Tennessee and Nashville Bar associations. Mike was a devoted sports enthusiast, a man's man, and a loyal New York Yankees fan. He was a member of Richland Country Club and an avid golfer, enjoying competitive weekend golf teamed with great friend, Gerry House. Mike was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and friend, known for his quick wit, his incomparable savvy, and his unconditional and abiding loyalty to those he loved. Fierce in his commitments and opinions, he was also fair in their application. He sought the best in and for his family and friends, who will forever miss him. Mike loved his annual trips to Italy and France with Karen over the past 18 years and the fond memories they created. He is survived by his wife, best friend and love of his life, Karen; sons, Will Chapman Donna, Preston; daughter, Caroline; grandson, Kadin Vinson and granddaughter, Morgan Chapman; sister, Donna Turner; brother, Pat Morgan Teresa; aunt, Tina Lanham; nephews, Jensen, Adam and Nick; and niece, Audra. Visitation with the family will be held at Woodmont Christian Church, 3601 Hillsboro Road on Thursday, July 21, 2011, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by the Memorial service at 12:00 p.m. Pallbearers are Will Chapman, Nick Akins, Richard Clark, Chad Jackson, Gordon Inman, Pat Morgan, Preston Morgan, Randy Vallen, Rhett Smith and David Barnette. In lieu of flowers, Mike requested memorials be made in his honor to the Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Middle Tennessee, 1704 Charlotte Ave Suite 130 or the Boy Scouts of America, 3414 Hillsboro Pike.
