EVANS, Joseph Benjamin - Age 93, passed away on Oct. 10, 2014. The cause of death was complications from lung cancer. He was born on Dec. 22, 1920 to Stella Black Evans and Jesse Otto Evans, and spent the majority of his formative years in Lebanon, TN. He attended Castle Heights Military Academy and Cumberland University, where he met his wife of 68 years, Mildred Guinn Page. They were married on September 15, 1942. Joe served in the Army during WWII, achieving the rank of Captain.

After the war, Joe and Mildred settled in Nashville, TN and he completed his degree in Accounting at Vanderbilt University. As a CPA, he worked for Osborn and Page in Nashville and then for Price Waterhouse in Nashville and St. Louis, Mo. After retiring in 1981, they moved back to Nashville.

Joe was very active in his church and community organizations in St. Louis and Nashville. In Nashville, he was a life long member of Doric Lodge and was a Past Wise Master. He held a 33rd degree in the Scottish Rite and was a member of the Jesters.

Joe was a man of many talents, interests and accomplishments, including hunting, fishing, flying and photography. He was devoted to his loving family and greatly enjoyed family events and celebrations. Joe was a devout Christian and lived his faith well.

Preceding Joe in death were his wife, Mildred, his daughter, Linda Evans Hiner and his brothers, Earl Evans and James Evans.

He is survived by his children, Susan (Fred) Roberts of Atlanta, Laura (Lou) Evans of Atlanta, Douglas Evans of Atlanta and son-in-law, David Hiner of Nashville; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at West Harpeth Funeral Home Monday from 4pm-7 pm, with the Scottish Rite service to follow. Funeral Services are scheduled for Tuesday at 10:00 at Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Meriwether officiating. Interment will be in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as Pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite Hospital, 1001 Johnson Ferry Rd. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30342.
