JT Tenpenny

Mr. JT Tenpenny joined his Lord and heavenly family at the age of 94, on July 20, 2023, following a longtime illness. Born on January 22, 1929, in Readyville, Tennessee, to Vestel and Osee Tenpenny, JT led a grateful and inspiring Christian life.

JT proudly served his country, for 28 years in the US Marine Corps, retiring in 1978 at the rank of CWO-4. He served in Okinawa, Japan, the Philippines, and two tours of duty in Vietnam. For his excellence he was personally selected to serve on staff, USMC Headquarters, Washington, DC. JT deeply loved his wife Lora, and all four of their children. After retiring, he and Lora settled in Nashville, Tennessee, where they have been long and faithful members of Hillsboro Church of Christ.

Preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and four sisters, he is survived by his wife of seventy years, Lora Berry Tenpenny; sons Stanley (Robin) of Tucson, Arizona; Mark, of Memphis, Tennessee; Chris (Robin) of Kingston Springs, Tennessee; daughter Julie, of Reno, Nevada; granddaughters Amy (Nick Clack), Lisa (Zack Fasig), and Faith Jenkins; and great grandson, Nash Clack.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, from 5:00PM until 8:00PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023, from 10:00AM until 12:00PM at West Harpeth. Services will begin at 12:00PM in the Chapel at West Harpeth. Following the service, JT will be laid to rest in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, McCrory Lane, in Pegram, Tennessee with full military honors.
