Brentwood, TN - Karl Benjamin Schnelle, Jr. passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2019, at the age of 88. He was a Professor of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Vanderbilt University, author of numerous books, and a beloved husband, father, grandfather, mentor, humorist and story-teller. He received his BS, MS, and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and was passionate about higher education. Professor Schnelle was elected to the highest honor of Fellow of the American Institute of Chemical Engineering. He was a train enthusiast and loved to travel. He relished his time and companionship with his devoted caregivers. He truly loved his family, grandchildren, and his extended family, Partha and Anita Dey and their children Monica and Robin. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Mary Dabney Schnelle, his sister-in-law Martha Dabney (Wayne) Smith, his son Karl (Margie) Schnelle, his daughter Kathryn (Chris) Robertson, and his 5 grandchildren, James (Ruth) Robertson, Michael Robertson, Sarah Robertson, Kate Robertson, and John Robertson.
