Larry Jeffers DeWane was born September 18, 1925 in Wolf Point, Montana to the late Dr. Joseph and Harriet DeWane (née Jeffers). He died peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on March 22, 2016, at the age of 90.

At 17, he enlisted in the Navy during WWII, serving as a diver in the Seabees. After receiving his honorable discharge, he graduated from Marquette University and later earned a law degree from Nashville Y.M.C.A. Night Law School. He practiced law in Nashville until his retirement.

Throughout his life, Larry supported politicians and organizations that championed social justice. He served as an alternate delegate from Montana to the historic 1948 Democratic convention in Philadelphia. He was a life-long Catholic and a member of St. Ann Church. He was a devout Predator's fan and an avid supporter of NPR. He loved his family, his gardens and was an enthusiastic bird watcher. He was easily recognized by his sparkling blue eyes, his bass voice, laughing smile and signature bow tie.

Larry is survived by his wife, Bertie (née Hamilton) of Nashville, his children, Dr. Joseph C. DeWane, Martha (James Wier) DeWane, Sarah (Douglas) Mabry, Rachel (Mark) Petrie, Edward (Melanie) DeWane and Bertie's children, Troy (Michelle) Wilkerson, Kelly (Ron Lavella) Wilkerson, and Christopher Branch. He is also survived by many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Mary Lander, grandson Brandon Whitley, brother Lynas DeWane and sister Patricia Webster (née DeWane). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry's memory to St. Ann Catholic Church, 5105 Charlotte Ave., Nashville, TN 37209.

The Funeral Service will be conducted on Friday, March 25, 2016, at 11:00am, at West Harpeth Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 4:00pm until 8:00pm, and on Friday from 10:00am until the service time at 11:00am

Interment will take place on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 30, 2016, AT 2:00PM, at the Middle TN Veterans Cemetery. Arrangements by West Harpeth Funeral Home, 6962 Charlotte Pike; online guestbook www.westharpethFH.com (615) 352-9400.
