"Mama" and "Mamaw"

September 4, 1917 - January 26, 2018

Leah Gertrude Daugherty was born on September 4, 1917. On July 11, 1936 she married Frank McKenzie. She celebrated her 100th birthday this past September and she passed away peacefully on January 26, 2018

Leah was preceded in death by her parents, (H.O. Daugherty and Dillie B. Canada) and 7 siblings,
as well as her husband, (Frank), and sons, (Hugh Oliver, Morris and William Baxter). Leah is survived by her children: son, Horace (Betty), and daughter, Rita Jewel Hunter and grandchildren: Morris, Jr. (Wendy), Denita Starnes (Tony), Mark (Shelia), Mary Carroll, Terri Ellison (Rodney), David, Michelle Hussung (John) and Michael. Leah was blessed to be Great Grandmother to 15 children and a Great Great Grandmother to 7.

Leah McKenzie will most be remembered for her love of family and church. These two things were the center of her life and both brought her great comfort and happiness. Through her life, Leah mastered the art of quilting and many benefited from her talent. She enjoyed playing all kinds of games, some of which included, scrabble and dominoes; she also liked to "work" puzzles, read, and you could always count on her to watch a game show with you. She enjoyed cooking for her family and would always try to make your "favorite".

Leah McKenzie, known by her family as Mama and Mamaw, was an amazingly strong woman; strong in mind, strong in body, strong in spirit and strong in faith. This was evident in all aspects of her life until the
peaceful end. Honorary Pallbearers will be Horace McKenzie, Morris McKenzie, Jr. Mark McKenzie, David McKenzie, Rodney Ellison, John Hussung, Sr.

The Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, January 29, 2018, at 1:00pm, at West Harpeth Funeral Home with Chaplain Gene Lovelace officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation will be on Monday one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Alive Hospice (1710 Patterson Street, Nashville, TN 37203)

Also, the family appreciates your love and support through this difficult time. However you knew her, be it Leah, Mama or Mamaw, she will be remembered always by all who loved her.
