Marie Garland

Jane Marie Murphy Garland, 94, of Nashville, passed away at her home on Wednesday, February 12, 2025. She was born in Franklin, TN, on March 11, 1930, to the late John B and Mai Ella Yeargin Murphy. She attended Cohn High School and was of the Church of Christ. Marie enjoyed genealogy and was even a published genealogy author.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years, William “Bill” Garland; and siblings, Buddy Murphy, Jean Smith, Dan Murphy, Charlie Murphy, and Ann Graves.

She is survived by her children, Stanley Eugene (Jackie) Garland, Marcus Wayne Garland, and Connie Marie (Eddie) Pomeroy; daughters-in-law, Mary and Kathi; sister, Velma Mai Murphy; 7 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a host of extended family members and beloved friends.

The family will receive friends from 10:00AM until 12:00PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at West Harpeth Funeral Home. A Celebration of Marie’s Life will begin at 12:00PM. Following the service, she will be laid to rest with her husband in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
