Mary was a true research scientist. She held both bachelor and master degrees in: Nursing, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Chemistry and Material Sciences.
Mary began her career working as a nurse in the neonatal hospital department. However, her interest in science soon took her on a different course. Throughout the years, she worked for Intel in Beaverton, Oregon; in electronics at Micron in Boise, Idaho; and during the last 16 years in research as an electron microscopist at Vanderbilt University.
Faith in God was an important part of Mary’s life. As she worked with the electron microscope, she continually marveled at the wonders of God that she observed in biology. She found a complete harmony between her love for God & her love for science.
Mary leaves behind three sisters: Shirley Mae Dawes, Jane Dawes Marthaller, Katherine Ann Dawes, AND an amazing grouping of decades-long dear friends.
