EVANS, Mildred Guinn Page- Age 88, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011. The cause of death was complications of pneumonia and heart arrhythmia. She was born on September 15, 1922, to Geneva Davis Page, and Fred Guinn Page, and spent the majority of her formative years in Lebanon, TN. She attended Cumberland University, where she met her husband of 68 years, Joseph B. Evans. They were married on September 2, 1942. For many years, they made their home in Nashville. After that they lived in St. Louis, MO., before returning to Nashville after Joe's retirement in 1981. Mildred was a gentle and loving Christian who was beloved by all her family and friends. She was a long standing member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. All of her family received the warmth of her love and caring. Mildred had many interests and talents. She had a lifelong love of reading, which she passed on her children. When her eyesight diminished, she listened to audiobooks. She and Joe shared a love of gardening, the Atlanta Braves, and travel, especially to the Western US. While in St. Louis, she was enthusiastic member of bowling teams. She had a particular interest in genealogy and was a member of the DAR and UDC. Attending Scottish Highland Games and participating in Scottish Country Dancing were favorite activities. Family events and celebrations were sources of great enjoyment to her. Mildred is survived by her loving husband, Joseph B. Evans; children, Susan Fred Roberts, of Atlanta, GA; Laura Evans, of Asheville, NC; Douglas Evans, of Atlanta, GA; son in law, David Hiner, of Nashville, TN; 11 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Hiner, and her brothers, Robert and Thomas Page. Funeral Services are scheduled for Thursday, July 21. 2011, at 11am, at the Immanuel Baptist Church with Pastor Steven Meriwether officiating. Interment will be in Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, memorials are encouraged to Cumberland University, 1 Cumberland Square # 103 Lebanon, TN 37087. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-8pm, at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME
