Mrs. Margaret Stuart

Peggy Stuart, age 84, passed away on March 20, 2016, surrounded by her family. Peggy was born July 22, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. In 1936, her family moved to Memphis, which is where Peggy met her beloved Herbert in 1948 while they were in high school (Tech High). Peggy and Herbert married on June 20, 1953. The couple moved to Nashville in 1958. Peggy was preceded in death by her father, Sydney Eric Paine; and her mother, Anna Marti Paine. Peggy was an only child and is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 63 years, Herbert J. Stuart; daughters, Nancy Stuart Webster (Gregory G.) of Lynnville, TN and Alice Stuart Meulemans (Michael R.) of Franklin, TN. Peggy and Herbert had 10 beautiful grandchildren and one great grand-child: Philip Webster of Huntsville, AL; David Webster (Georgia) of Lynnville, TN; Anna Webster of Pleasantville, TN; Julie Webster; Rachel Webster; Grace Webster; Lily Webster; and Andrew Webster, all of Lynnville, TN; Connor Meulemans and Margaret Meulemans of Franklin, TN; and one great grand-daughter, Emma Webster. Peggy was an active member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville. She was a classical pianist and belonged to two music clubs, Woman's Musicale and Piano Study Club, along with the National Steinway Society. She was a 50-year member of Chapter E, PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization) and was to be honored in May at the Tennessee State PEO Convention for her dedication and service. Peggy was a joyful spirit and never spoke ill of anyone. She was known for her cakes, cookies and casseroles which she gifted family and friends. Peggy always looked after others, hosted tea parties for her granddaughters, loved going to the symphony, hiking in Edwin Warner Park, swimming laps and attending watercize at her favorite Green Hills YMCA, traveling abroad and throughout the U.S., painting scenery from her beloved Monteagle Sunday School Assembly Grounds, entertaining her ladies' clubs, performing two-piano concerts, sewing clothes, knitting, arranging flowers, and anything artistic. Her beautiful, hand-crafted eggshell ornaments were famous, and currently hang on Christmas trees around the country! Peggy was the consummate "Renaissance Woman," and she will be dearly missed by those who knew her. Services will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Nashville on Wednesday, March 23th, 2016. Visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00am in the church parlor, followed by the memorial service at 11:00am in the sanctuary. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the charity of your choice.
