Nallie Louise Peay Smith - Age 82 of Madison, TN, Dec 02, 2019. Born October 27, 1937, in Nashville at Vanderbilt Hospital. Preceded in death by her parents, Clyde Eugene and Thelma Louise Wilson Peay, her sister, Cathay Jean Peay Isabell, half-brother, Dorris Jones, and ex-husband Joseph Patrick Smith. Also, her Beagle companion for many years, Buttercup, whom she adopted in 2008 and affectionately called Miss Butters. She leaves behind her children Ann Elizabeth Epperson (Judy Manners) and Kathleen Louise Buttrey (Ron Buttrey); three grandchildren Autumn, Colton, Dakota; two great-grandaughters Amara and Katlye; one nephew, Kevin Ray Isabell; a half-brother, Wayne Jones and his family of Birmingham, AL; other family and friends. Nallie graduated from East Nashville High School in 1955 where she was awarded the DAR Medal and continued her formal education by taking classes at UT-Nashville. Having exceptional secretarial skills and an intense desire for learning, her professional life was varied, her earliest job being with the old Nashville Public Schools in the Audio-Visual Department which evolved into WDCN. She also worked in the fields of insurance, law, library, travel, safety, and human transplant services. She and Florine Fuller, the full-time Librarian at Cohn High School at the time, started the library at UT-Nashville, now known as TSU Downtown where she enlarged her knowledge of Cutter and Dewey Decimal System that she began to learn while working in the Central Office Library Division of the Nashville Public Schools. Her final career position was as Executive Assistant to the Executive Director of DCIDS Tissue Services, which she said was her favorite job of all because of the humanitarian element. She was a member of Executive Women International and Women's International Bowling Congress. In addition to her career, she had several hobbies including bowling, bridge, tennis, sewing, knitting, cross stitch, reading, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, soccer and her favorite spectator sport, professional ice hockey, especially the Nashville Predators.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 8, 2019 at West Harpeth Funeral Home with Dr. Hubert Cunningham officiating. Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at West Harpeth Funeral Home.
