Norman Robert McBurney II
Norman Robert "Mac" McBurney II, 70, passed away May 8, 2014. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland to the late Norman Robert McBurney and Lucy Boswell McBurney.

Mac was a loving husband and proud father to four girls. He was a gifted photographer with works exhibited in galleries and corporate collections. Sharp witted and studious in nature, he was an avid sportsman most at home in the outdoors, fishing solo on a quiet lake before sunrise or sitting in a deer blind with longtime hunting buddies.

His interests and competencies were wide and varied - from woodworking and computer programming to classical music and the arts. Mac worked at Stanford Research Institute followed by 30 years in management for General Electric. He proudly served as a Sky Soldier with the 173rd Airborne Brigade of the U.S. Army and received a degree in mathematics from California State University at San Jose.

He held volunteer leadership positions in conservation organizations such as Ducks Unlimited and Quail Unlimited, and taught courses for the Music City Power Squadron. Mac valued education and youth, leading nature walks as a volunteer with Owl's Hill Nature Sanctuary and facilitating Girl Scout environmental projects.

He is survived by wife Shelley Liles McBurney; daughters Erin Kay Zoufal of Atlanta, GA and Michele Porterfield (Mark) of Sharon, PA; step-daughters Taylor Sullivan of Kingston Springs, TN and Rachel Morris of Nashville, TN; sister Sharon McBurney of Roseburg, OR; brothers Terry McBurney of Nampa, ID and Russell McBurney of Monterey, CA; three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. His long-time companion Riley - an English setter always underfoot - will also miss him.

Services will be held 11 am Friday, May 16th at Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery Pavilion, 7931 McCrory Lane, Nashville.
