HAGEY, Richard Rick Earl, Jr. – Age 49. Died of cancer @ Roosevelt Hospital in New York City on August 31st, 2012. Born on March 17th, 1963, in Nashville, TN, Rick grew up in Hendersonville, TN, and most recently was a resident of Boston, MA.
Rick was a 1981 Top Ten graduate of Hendersonville High School where he was active in the Band of Gold, Mid-state Band, Solo and Ensemble Festival, Math Team, Beta Club, National Honor Society, Drama Club, Forensics Club, Thespian Society, and Science Club. Following high school he attended the University of Chicago where he was on the Dean's list every year, graduating with honors and a B.A. in Geophysical Sciences in 1985. He later went on to attend the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Sloan School of Management where in 1989 he earned his M.S. in Management with a concentration in Corporate Strategy and Management of Technological Innovation.
Rick was intellectually gifted and talented. He was quite the wordsmith and had the ability to tailor and communicate abstract principles and ideas effectively and efficiently to people of all backgrounds. He also had an uncanny knack for remembering dates of events. His dry wit and sense of humor endeared him to many.
During a work history spanning over 20 years, Rick performed management consulting work primarily for firms specializing in corporate strategy, economics, operations, and education innovation. His previous employers include Quantum Associates, Braxton Associates Deloitte Consulting, Putnam, Hayes & Bartlett, and The Education Innovation Lab Edlabs at Harvard University. At the time of his death Rick worked for The Lab consulting firm out of Houston, Texas.
Playing music was Rick's passion. Throughout his life he played trumpet and mellophone in a number of drum and bugle corps, alumni corps and mini-corps including the Troopers, Cavaliers, 27th Lancers, Bridgemen, Sine Wave and Mass Brass.
Preceded in death by his father, Richard Earl Hagey, Sr., sister, Patty Jane Hagey, grandmother, Nina B Kinchum Hunter, grandfather, James F. Hunter, grandmother, Ruble Hutcheson Glaus, and grandfather, Oscar D. Glaus.
He is survived by his mother, Betty Hunter Holloway and stepfather, Roy Holloway of Nashville, sister, Diane Hagey Levine and brother-in-law Mark Levine of Mt. Juliet, as well as a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 on September 29th, 2012, at Hendersonville Memory Gardens, 353 Johnny Cash Parkway, Hendersonville, TN, phone: 615-824-3855. A celebration of life reception will follow from 3:00 to 5:00 at Barefoot Charlie's Restaurant. Visitation with family will occur 1 hour before service, at 1:00. Interment of ashes will be at a later date in the Nashville City Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to the Hendersonville High School Band, for the Rick Hagey Memorial Fund.
