Richard Allen “Opie” Vaughn, 70 of Nashville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. He was born in Nashville on August 3, 1954. Opie graduated from Cohn High School in 1972. Three months later, he enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served his country for two years. He was of the Christian faith. After working for the VA, Opie would go on to retire from the United States Postal Service where he worked for many years. Opie stayed busy by playing golf, going fishing, watching baseball, and even playing the lottery. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family whether he was vacationing at Disney with his family or spending time with his four beloved granddaughters.
Opie was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Vaughn.
He is survived by his wife of almost 49 years, Faye Mundy Vaughn; daughter, Dana (Cliff) Denney; son, Stephen (Jen) Vaughn; granddaughters, Allie, Kaylin, Aria, and Adalyn; father-in-law, Raymond Mundy; and a host of beloved extended family members and beloved friends.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 14, 2025, from 4:00PM until 8:00PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 10:00AM until 11:00AM. A Celebration of Opie’s Life will begin immediately following the visitation on Tuesday in the Chapel at West Harpeth. Following the service, Opie will be laid to rest in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens.
