January 21, 1948 to May 9th, 2023. Born in Nashville Tennessee.
Died from complications of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. Preceded in death by parents, Robert Elton and Madeline Holt Gray; sister, Shirley Sanders; and special aunt, Flora E. Gray, 1966 graduate of Cohn High School. A 26-year police officer for the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and 16 years with Music City Security and Investigations. 47-year member of the Fraternal Order of Police. He was a huge Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols fan. Survivors include wife of 52 years, Betty Gray; daughters, Julia (David) King, Bridgette (Jeremy) Ketchum, grandchildren, Emma and James Ketchum. Nephews and Niece, Mike, Vicky and Steve Sanders; Great Nephews, Matthew and Bryan Sanders. Special friend and mentor, Carl McKelvey. He will also be sadly missed by his blind dog, Paisley. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 12, 2023, from 4:00PM – 7:00PM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. Additional visitation will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023, from 9:00AM until the 10:00AM Service in the Chapel at West Harpeth. Following the Service, Robert will be laid to rest in the Harpeth Hills Memory Gardens. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers with Roy Rodgers and Harry Braswell serving as honorary pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
