Roberta Louise Candler, age 87, was born September 3, 1926 in Athens, Alabama and passed away April 29, 2014. She is preceded in death by her parents, Norma Shockley Black and William Black; husband, Charles Carroll Candler; sisters, Ilean Broadway, Mary Lou Roberts, and Ruby Black; brother, William Black. She is survived by her daughter, Jo Ann (Hardy) Rist; son, Charles Ronald Candler; brother, Roy Eugene (Bettye) Black; sister, Willie Bell Snell; grandchildren, Kimberly (Mark) Eckstein, Renea (Brian) Taylor, Rachel Lancaster, Michael (Sara) Candler, Christopher Candler, and Andrew Rist. Roberta was a faithful member of Charlotte Heights Church of Christ. She retired from St. Thomas Hospital after 31 years of service. A special gratitude to Willow Brook Nursing Home, Dr. Nathan Hall, and Dr. Canonico. Also, special gratitude to dear friends Nellie (Ray) Bell, and Sue (Thomas) Ladd. The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2014, at 11am, at West Harpeth Funeral Home with Brother Clifford Dobbs officiating. Interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief or Semper Fi Fund. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 3-8pm and Friday 10-11am at WEST HARPETH FUNERAL HOME, 6962 Charlotte Pike; 352-9400.
