Dr. Henderson, Roscoe "R.C.", age 90, of Nashville, passed away on Thursday, March 26, 2015. Dr. Henderson was the son of the late Fred F. Henderson and Bertie Kerley Henderson of Winchester, TN. He was preceded in death by a son (Karl Clinton) and two brothers (Olin & Wilburn).
Dr. Henderson is survived by his wife of 68 years, Jean F. Henderson, daughters Mylinda J. Vick and Marsha H. Denton, grandchildren Eric J. Vick and Amber R. Vick. Funeral services will be at 10:00 the morning of Monday, March 30, 2015 at West Harpeth Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Shelton officiating. Placement to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
Dr. Henderson graduated from Trevecca College in 1949, Received his MA degree in 1950, Specialist of Education degree in 1958 and his Doctorate of Philosophy in 1981. His professional career as an educator began in 1950 as a principal in Williamson County schools, later transferring to Metro Davidson county as a principal. He served as an educator for 43 years. He was passionate about teaching, and also served as a professor at Trevecca University.
He served on the board of the Tennessee Teachers Credit Union for 34 years chairing the board for 25 of those years. Dr. Henderson taught Sunday School for over 45 years, and was an ordained pastor.
He served in the U.S. Navy having active duty in World War II, and Korea. He served in the active reserves and taught sailors who had not graduated from high school. He achieved the rank of LTJG in the reserves.
Dr. Henderson pursued other service after retirement including volunteering to file taxes for the elderly for 20 years and also serving as a volunteer ombudsman for many years.
Pallbearers are: Danny Henderson, David Henderson, Carl Davids, Jeff Vick, Eric Vick, Gary Keith, Keith Johnson and James Hamm.
Honorary Pallbearers are members of his former Sunday School Class.
