Ruth Claire Scheidt Baker of Nashville passed away on March 13, 2022 at the age of 97. She was born on February 20, 1925 to her parents, Karl Henry and Clara Miller Scheidt
She was a member of Hillwood Presbyterian Church. She graduated college from The University of Louisville and received her Master of Music Composition from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Rev. Charles Thomas Baker, Jr., her parents, Karl and Clara Scheidt, her brothers, Karl Henry Scheidt, Jr. (Thelma), and Louis Miller Scheidt (Pat).
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her brother, Jonathan Raymond Scheidt, her sons, Thomas Karl Baker (Kathy) and Marion Leigh Baker (Kris), her grandchildren, Elise Marie Baker, Michael Thomas Baker, Melanie Hayes Baker, her step grandchild, Gilbert Alexander Glaubitz, many nieces and nephews and other family members Rob and Dan Glaubitz.
Ruth enjoyed playing the violin and spent 30 years teaching string instruments in the Metro Nashville Public School System. Even after retiring from Metro Schools, she continued to give private music lessons so she could continue sharing the joy of making music. At the beginning of her music career during the 1950s, she was a member of the Nashville Symphony and toward the end of her career she enjoyed playing the bells at Hillwood Presbyterian Church. She was loved for her quick wit, her eternal kindness, and her loving spirit.
Services will be held Monday, March 21, at Hillwood Presbyterian Church located at 6220 Hickory Valley Rd, Nashville, TN 37205, with visitation at 9:30 a.m. and the service at 10:30 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hillwood Presbyterian Church or to the Assistance Program of the Board of Pensions of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) which helps retired Presbyterian ministers and their surviving spouses.
