An adventurer who loved to meet people, travel and try new things, Satish Kumar Makrandi was a kind, generous father, grandfather, brother and son. He was born in Multan, India in 1940, lived through the Independence movement and Partition and grew up in Lucknow. He went on to become a well-loved Dentist, educated at King George’s Medical College, where he worked and taught. He married Vijay Rani in 1969 and they moved to England where he completed an additional degree and had a daughter, Nandini. Always excited about the opportunity to experience a new place, Satish and family moved to the US in 1979 and he went on to work at Meharry Medical College in the Department of Prosthodontics. He retired from Meharry after 30 years and then launched into volunteer work, gardening, creating collages, photography and travel to various countries. He loved to socialize and made friends easily. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need. Through the example he set, he taught us all about the importance of family, of reaching out personally, and always putting others before yourself.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vijay, his daughter, Nandini, her husband, Randy, his grandson, Naveen and his sister, Saroj. He has close family and lifelong friends on both sides of the Atlantic, in the US, India, and England. Satish passed away on November 25, 2023 at the age of 83. We will miss his jokes, his creative cooking, and his thoughtful and compassionate spirit.
