Sidney Small

Sidney Maurice Small, 76 of Nashville, passed away on December 22, 2022, at his home. He was born to the late Maurice Barrett and Grace Ramsey Small in Bloomington, Indiana, on September 26, 1946. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville with a degree in history. Sidney proudly served in the United States Army serving in the Vietnam War as well the Gulf War. He went on to retire from the Army National Guard after over 23 years of service. Sidney also retired from the Right of Way of the Tennessee Department of Transportation for over 15 years. He enjoyed camping and cooking. He loved his cars. Sidney also liked taking care of his fish and fish tanks. Sidney was a big University of Tennessee football fan.

In addition to his parents, Sidney was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Jean Small; and step-father, Alvin E. Hicks

He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving daughters, Tracie Small and Karen Small; grandchildren, Nolan and Owen Veliz; daughter-in-law, Amanda Tarantola; William, Kayla, James “Austin”, and Abigail Tarantola; sister, Julia Small; one close cousin, Virginia Willis; and a host of beloved, extended family members and friends.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 18, 2023, from 10:30AM until 11:30AM at West Harpeth Funeral Home located at 6962 Charlotte Pike in Nashville. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:30AM in the West Harpeth Chapel. Following the service, Sidney will be laid to rest in the Middle Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery.
