Thomas (Tom) Alva Mitchell, Jr, age 93, of Nashville, TN passed away peacefully on September 25, 2014. Tom is survived by his son, Tom Mitchell; his daughters, Cindy (Kevin) Barnett and Diane (Marko Gosar) Mitchell; grandchildren, Lauren and Brett Barnett, Amy (Dave) Pooley and Thomas Mitchell; great grandson, Henry Pooley. Preceded in death by his parents, T Alva and Lavinia Mitchell, and his sister, Sue Mitchell.
He was born October 16, 1920 in Copperhill,TN. He was a graduate of McCallie School, Chattanooga, TN and MIT, Cambridge, MA. He worked in engineering at the Oak Ridge, TN munitions complex during WWII and then went on to a successful career at Eastman Kodak's Tennessee Operations in Kingsport, TN until retirement; a span of over 40 years. He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. Tom was also a significant positive influence on countless friends and acquaintances. He enjoyed reading, playing golf with friends, watching anything Tennessee orange, and listening to music.
Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, September 27, 1:00 - 2:00 followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 pm at St.David's Episcopal Church, 6501 Pennywell Drive, Nashville, TN 37205. Flowers/donations should be sent to St. David's Episcopal Church (615-352-0293).
